Phra Ratchaniwet Maruekkhathaiyawan, King Rama VI Summer Palace is located about 10km north of Hua Hin and 10km south of Cha-am, inside the Southern Border Police HQ Compound. It is well signposted off the main Highway 4 via a 2km access road.

The original, smaller Rama V palace was designed by an Italian architect and allegedly completed in just over two weeks in 1923 for King Rama. It was built at the beach in Tambon Haui Sai Nuea, Amphoe Cha-am and later occupied by King Mongkutklao also known as King Rama VI.

In 1925, after King Rama VI died the palace was abandoned. For almost fifty years it was ravaged by the salty sea winds. In the 1970's restoration work began on the three two-storey wooden pavilions facing the sea. The King's summer palace is now fully restored.

The Palace is open to the public daily from 08.00-16.00 and is a must-see whilst you are in Hua Hin for a real glimpse back into Thailand's Royal past. The Palace is now fully restored and prides itself on being the longest golden teak palace in the world. You can find it within a few minute's drive north of Hua Hin.
