These pictures were taken on Khao Thong Chai (Thong Chai Mountain) in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. It is located on the point between Ban Krud beach and Sai Kaew beach. Khao Thong Chai is easily accessable by road. From the top of Khao Thong Chai you will have a spectacular view of Ban Krud beach and Sai Kaew beach.
At the top of the small mountain is Phra Maha Chedi Pakdeeprakas, a magnificent nine-tiered pagoda and Phra Buddha Kiti Sirichai known to the locals as Luang Pho Yai.
Phra Maha Chedi Pakdeeprakas
The residents of Ban Krud and other surrounding towns and villages got together and raised the funds to build the pogoda to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The King named the pagoda Phra Maha Chedi Pakdeeprakas. The pagoda is an interesting design with slanted doors and windows which when viewed from certain locations within the building provide the viewer with deep perspective.
Phra Buddha Kiti Sirichai
Presented to Queen Sirikit for her sixtieth birthday, this Buddha image stands 13.8 meters tall a little further down the mountain from the pogoda. Luang Pho Yai sits in the lotus posture and faces out to sea.
